Our practice, Mesa Dental, offers Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure, or LANAP®. LANAP is the first and only FDA approved laser surgery. LANAP technology is backed by laboratory and clinical research.
Lasers have been around for many years, however, in the dental field, the technology is just taking hold. This tool is used for treating gum disease and allows for removal of diseased gum tissue in a targeted fashion. LANAP leaves the healthy tissues intact, so your body can heal itself!
The benefits of LANAP in Santa Barbara, California, includes:
- Less pain
- Reduced swelling
- Less sensitivity
- Less bleeding
- Decreased downtime after treatment
- Less post-op discomfort and infections
- Promotion of supporting gum tissue regeneration
- Faster healing with more comfort during recovery
LANAP surgery involves removing diseased tissue, which also breaks up and loosens the tartar from the root surface of your tooth. The laser targets the infected tissue, but leaves unaffected tissue alone. The utilization of a fine, ultra-sonic tool then removes the calculus and prepares the root for the reattachment of the gums. The laser is then switched to a different setting to seal up the surgical area. The body’s own bandage, which is called fibrin, seals off the site, and the healing process begins.
